Finding Refuge

          There are times that we look for shelter from the storms in this life, yet often feel as though there is no place to hide and life just keeps coming at us from all sides.  I know there have been times in my past that I have felt like this.  Now though in times that comparably are even worse then those I felt so alone in I can better relate to these passages in Psalm 31.

Psalm 31:1 In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
deliver me in your righteousness.

2 Turn your ear to me,
come quickly to my rescue;
be my rock of refuge,
a strong fortress to save me.

3 Since you are my rock and my fortress,
for the sake of your name lead and guide me.

4 Keep me free from the trap that is set for me,
for you are my refuge.

5 Into your hands I commit my spirit;
deliver me, Lord, my faithful God.

          On in particular part is that in Psalm 31:3 where the Psalmist is asking God to lead and guide them.  When we are in the middle of the storm we often want to know what it is that God wants us to do.  If we read on we must commit ourselves over to Him completely and trust in the Lord to do what it is that we ask.  So many times I am afraid that we ask for guidance and then get upset and put out with God when it is not shown to us right away.  Our faith may faultier because we do not see anything happening.  Perhaps this is why we are being put through the ordeal in the first place; maybe God is testing our faith in Him.

          Psalm 31:23 Love the Lord, all his faithful people!
          The Lord preserves those who are true to him,
          but the proud he pays back in full.

            24 Be strong and take heart,
          all you who hope in the Lord.
