I had plenty of reading in today’s devotionals, but one thing stood out to me and has always been on my heart since I had decided to devote my life to God. This is the passage in John that I am talking about:
John 12:25 “Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”
There was a time that my own death bothered me. Now however I look forward to that day. Not in a way such as I want to take my own life and just get it done with like someone that is deeply depressed might think, but in a way that this is not my home and God is waiting for the day I will be with Him type way. Those are fairly strong words in the passage “anyone who hates their life in this world…”, but fairly accurate for those that have accepted Christ into their lives.
I had a conversation with a former coworker that professed to be a Christian and follow Christ to an extent, but his biggest fear was dying. Now how could someone that professes Christ fear death? There were other things as well that led me to believe that he was not a true follower of Christ, but that was the one thing that proved it to me.
As Christians we should not fear death, but actually look forward to that day we are taken from this world and sent home. That being said however we also have a responsibility while we are in this world and that is to glorify God in all we do so that others will see there is more to be had then just what we have in this world.
